The Bad Word
Every parent at one time or other have heard certain words come from their children’s mouths that they wished would have never been spoken. Maybe these words were heard on TV or from another child on the playground. Either way, the word/words have been implanted into the vast learning capacity of the child’s brain. This may seem strange, but you should not say a thing either way as to what the child has said. Unless, of course, the bad word/words become a frequent part of the child’s vocabulary. Any comment that is said as to the bad word, will only reinforce that word in the child’s mind. This exact situation happened to me, and by not reinforcing the word, my child has not said it again (knock on wood). Once again, try not to reinforce the word by bringing attention to it unless it is spoken frequently.

How do you feel about the internet influencing kids?
In many respects, I believe that the internet can also be a very detrimental source to a child’s vocabulary. Also, with the ease of access to the internet, it is really not that hard to find a web site that contains inappropriate material. One must very extremely vigilant in their monitoring of what their children are doing online. These inappropriate sites not only contain audio of “bad words”, but also images and videos that children should not be seeing. Once again diligence is the key.

As a parent and member of the human race I agree. I also feel that squirrels can offer more to society than just mere amusement at the hands of teenagers with catapults. If we as members of the human race could just take a moment to listen to the chatter of our squirrel counterparts, perhaps we could walk away with a little bit more insight into just what exactly it is that our own language does to effect the fragile psyche of humanlings. Good show Mr. Squirrel.
